Free Lunch Winner at Bar Louie

Thanks for sharing, Jessica.

Jessica sent the following email after her visit at Bar Louie:

Pam,I want to thank you again for allowing me to dine at Bar Louie "on the house." Me and my husband dined there on Sunday afternoon. We really enjoyed it. I had the Big Louie breakfast which was really good. It came with scrambled eggs, bacon, tater tots and pancakes. I especially liked the complimentary doughnut holes and bloody mary!We had a fried shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was great, but the sauces that were served with them weren't very good (in my opinion.) They were all either too hot, or had a weird "twang." My husband had a Big Louie cheeseburger, and he really liked it. My husband liked it so much he wanted to eat there again yesterday! The service and the management was very friendly. The restaurant wasn't very busy around 1 when we went, so we did not have to wait very long for anything. The only downside to our visit was the fact that we were sat right next to the kitchen, so we could hear the employees yelling at each other (there were a few profanities thrown in there.) Other than that, everything was great. We will definitely be back, but we will sit somewhere different next time. Thanks Again!Jessica O'Baugh

Beef O'Brady's in Maumelle - Where Kids Eat Free on Tuesday's

If you're looking for a place to catch the game this weekend... this little neighborhood spot is certainly worth a mention - for the food and the fun. Here's why I like doing this kind of story. You have to know where Beef O'Brady's (Not much Irish Pub fare at all), affectionately referred to as Beef's, is located ... or you might miss it. As a matter of fact, I did. I even asked a guy who's lived in Maumelle for a while if he could give me directions - incredibly, he said he'd never heard of it! And Beef's has been there for 8 YEARS!!!! 115 Audubon... just off Maumelle Blvd in the Town Center Shopping Center - down the sidewalk from the Wal-Mart Grocery Store - not the Super Center - the grocery store.

Beef's is known for its signature wings - Owner of the Maumelle location, Rebecca Jones, says they come in come in 8 varieties and during the week of Superbowl, the franchise, couuntry-wide, sells about 2 million of them. Lot a wings... lot a bones! My favorite - the Sweet Jalapeno, a blend of just the right sweetness with a little kick.

But they also have grilled options, like the chicken you see above right (the chicken is tender and tasty- it's marinated then grilled to perfection, served with mashed potatoes and gravy and broccoli); a variety of sandwiches including the Cuban and Reuben and salads - the one with the grouper looked really tasty but I didn't sample it.

For those looking for more traditional sports-themed fare, burgers are on the menu as well as
all things fried - chicken fingers, mini turkey corn dogs, nachos - and it was the first time I'd ever seen the jalapenos grilled - cheese dip and salsa, to name a few.

And you must not leave without trying dessert (not made in house but still worth having) - the signature is a decadent chocolate cake, however, my personal favorite is the turtle cheesecake.

Jones stresses that while she does have a bar - Beef's is a family restaurant with a game room for kids to play while their parents catch the games on one of 20 televisions. Beef's carries the NFL ticket as well as college games. During the football season the restaurant will feature discount wings and "build your own nachos." Beef's caters and also has a private party room. The restaurant is also non-smoking.

Who Knew? Gluten-free Pizza at Boston's

Since it's football season, I decided to look for places that would be a good hangout if you weren't going to a game. You get the ambiance of a sports atmosphere and get to fill on tasty options as the side benefit. I had forgotten about Boston's at the Airport Holiday Inn. Some of you probably hadn't even heard of Boston's even though the restaurant has been in Little Rock for 3 years. It's in the former Bobbisox location. (Haven't seen that name in so long, don't remember how to spell it)

What I like about Boston's is a lot, actually: they have a family style dining on one side and a sports bar atmosphere on the other - both of of which are non-smoking. For those who have to have their nicotine fix, there is an enclosed patio outside the dining area. There's also a wide-ranging menu with not "your typical pub food" - in addition to their gourmet pizza offerings, they have fish dishes, pastas, salads, sandwiches and soups.

The Asian Glazed salmon is my favorite for a light option- grilled salmon, rice and steamed broccoli. And I love the thick cut, made in-house potato chips, referred to as cactus cuts. I didn't try desserts, usually too full, but I've heard the unique cheesecake offering is the bomb!

Check out Boston's Facebook page for specials - become a fan and you're eligible for other discounts. In honor of the kick-off to football season, Boston's is running a rib special, called "Rib Ragious" featuring 4 kinds of ribs. Kid's menu available. Price Range $6-18. On-site parking. Hours: Monday - Saturday 11 am - midnight; Sunday - 11 am - 10 pm. Business delivery only - Limited area. Catering available. 3201 Bankhead Drive (Airport Holiday Inn) (501) 235-2000
