Congrats to Winner of Gift Certificate to Cakes by Sam

Congrats to Lasheena Neal - this week's winner of a $25 gift certificate to Cakes by Sam. A special thanks to all of you who participate and watch each week. Another winner selected next week. FYI, the answer was People Magazine.

Owner Sam Parsley says she was approached by a national cake show to be featured on its program but says she's dedicated to the people of Arkansas and the countless brides that call on her every single week. At one time, and this is on the low end, Sam says she did 40 cakes a week. Let's see, if she's been in business since 1993...times 40 cakes, that's 18 years - that would be 37,000 plus cakes.

BTW, Cakes by Sam was formerly located in Cabot. Sam Parsley opened her new bakery at 1212 John Harden Dr in Jacksonville - the same exit you take to get to Wal-Mart.

Our post about Cakes by Sam drew some interesting responses on Facebook, with some saying her cakes were too pricey. While I personally appreciate budgets, I also believe it's truly a matter of how one chooses to spend his/her expendable income. Sam's cakes are a work of art and I witnessed the time and effort that her team puts into their craft. Now, Sam does offer some cakes that are in a more comfortable range for most of our pocketbooks, but if one chooses to splurge for that special occassion, more power to him or her.

Her cakes are not "cookie-cutter" and can be as individual as the personality of those ordering them. She takes great pride in her work, including the smallest of details - and I was truly impressed with her behind-the-scenes operation. For imagination, creativity, taste and presentation - Sam gets an emphatic nod. You might have to do some extra laps at the gym after visiting her, though. :)

Sam has some dessert cakes ready everyday, in the event you forgot to pick up one for that co-worker who's having a birthday or for brownie points with your boss. LOL

Sam does an assortment of cookies, tarts, pies, cheesecake and cinnamon rolls, daily. You can enjoy those with a hot cup of java from Mountain Bird Coffee, Sam's brother-in-law's business in North Arkansas. Sam has also added hot ham and hot turkey sandwiches to her menu for lunch, along with a choice of two soups. Open Tuesday-Friday, 9 am - 5:30 pm; Saturday 9 am - 1 pm.
